Elections and Voter Registration
The City Clerk is the official record keeper for the City of Newaygo. The Clerk also has the duties of facilitating official meetings and board and commission appointments, and assists the public in accessing public documents and information. The Clerk administers elections and voter registration in accordance with State and Federal Law.
Tuesday, August 4, 2026 Primary Election
The Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. City residents can vote at Newaygo City Hall located at 28 State Road on Tuesday, August 4th from 7:00am-8:00pm. If you are interested in voting early you can vote at the Newaygo County Building located at 1087 Newell St. in White Cloud from Saturday, July 25, 2026 through Sunday, August 2, 2026
from 7:00 am-3:00 pm.
The last day to register to vote in any manner other than in person with the local clerk for the Primary Election is Monday, July 20, 2026. In person registration with the local clerk is from Tuesday, July 21, 2026 thru August 4, 2026 providing proof of residency. The City Clerk is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 am-4:00 pm.

Military and Overseas Civilian Voters
There are certain special services provided for voters who are active duty military and/or overseas. The following information will be of help to military and overseas voters who wish to participate in various elections.
How to Register to vote: Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website, download and complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). The FPCA can also be used to obtain an absent voter ballot by e-mail, fax or regular mail.
How to obtain an absent voter ballot by email, fax, or regular mail: Go to the Federal Voting Assistance Program website, download and complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA). Check the appropriate box for e-mail, fax or mail. The FPCA can also be used to register to vote.
How to take advantage of discounted mailing costs for overseas voters: Go to the Overseas Vote Foundation website. Click on "Express Your Vote" and follow instructions.

Purpose of Meetings:
To discuss the upcoming August 4, 2026 Primary Election; approve the Clerk to conduct the election, approve list of inspectors, approve use of the Dominion Imagecast Election Equipment, and hold a public accuracy test of the Dominion Scan Voting System in preparation for the August 4, 2026 Primary Election
Register to Vote
To qualify to be a registered voter in the State of Michigan you must be:A U.S. citizen
- At least 18 years old by the date of the next election
- A resident of Michigan
- A resident of the City for 30 days prior to the election
If registering to vote more than 15 days before an election, you may register to vote at:
- Any Michigan Secretary of State Office
- The Clerk's office at City Hall
- Military Recruitment Centers
- Online at https://mvic.sos.state.mi.us/registervoter
If registering to vote within 14 days of an election, and on Election Day, voters may only register in person at the Clerk's Office with proof of residency documentation.
